We’ve a big focus on activities for families and children at this year’s Northern Grip. Here’s a rundown of some of stuff we have planned for all the Little Grippers.

Did we mention Northern Grip is FREE for under 10s? And just £5 for under 18s. Adult tickets are £15.

Clubbing with your kids! The family-friendly day-time club-night brought to you by the lovely people at Pennine Pop will be bringing the cross fader action to Northern Grip on Saturday afternoon with club tunes for all and kids activities galore.

Go Velo deliver Bikeability tutoring and assessing nationwide and instruct Bikeability at local schools. The team includes coaches, national standards instructors, mountain bike leaders, ride leaders, route planners bike mechanics, an ex-World and European champ BMXer… and quite a few unfit wannabes! They’ll be offering skills sessions for all your little grippers on the day – go and find there stand and get yourself checked in.

“Ride safe, grow strong”. Little Rippers is a fast growing community of parents encouraging their kids to take up the joy of mountain biking. Join the Little Ripper tribe and encourage your kid to rip it up. Run by Parents who ride with their little rippers… and love every minute of it!

Bomber strong mountain bike ramps for big air at home, club and events. Don’t worry (well, too much) Sender Ramps will be bringing their scaled down ramps for little ‘uns to practice their big air skills on in a nice controlled environment.

A small British company dedicated to making cycling fun for children. Frog Bikes believe that the lighter the bike, the easier it is for children to learn to ride, and to enjoy it more as they progress. Frog will be bringing their fleet of demo bikes to Northern Grip so that you can find just the right size and model for your kids ones to razz it around the pump track, or even mix it with the big kids in the quarry.

We’ll be mapping out recommended local trails for all abilities. For kids we’ll be aiming to keep it fun and session-able – i.e. tire them out with fun rather than put them off with endless slog! Kids will need to have a grown-up with them on all routes.

Our fabulous location in Stubbylee Park has a superb, brand new pump track on site as well as a great BMX and skate park and also a well specced kids playground for younger kids. These facilities will be open to all on the day. Your little grippers will have no excuse for going home bored.

Not just pizza, but we will have pizza, because all kids like pizza. It’s basically the law.

How does Saturday morning yoga for the campers grab you? Or what kid won’t enjoy watching their red-faced parent having a crack at Shirt Or Squirt? As always we’ll also have some eye popping bands to keep you entertained. And let’s not forget to remind you about the Britannia Greenway launch that’s happening just up the road during Northern Grip with a whole other set of great things to see and do.

Northern Grip organiser David Agnew: “Last year’s event was an amazing success with our audience loving the combination of great trails, new bike demos, kids activities, food, beer, live music and DJs . Stubbylee Park and Lee Quarry are both fantastic venues for Northern Grip to shine a spotlight on and this year we’ll be welcoming even more brands to guarantee that the festival hub will be a hive of activity all day. We’re really happy to announce that Little Rippers and Frog Bikes will be with us and we’ll have Go-Velo providing skills coaching for children to take their first ride. They’ll even be able to practice on the Sender jump ramps if they’re feeling a bit more daredevil”

We’ll be announcing more demo brands and exhibitors very soon so keep an eye on mountain bike websites, our own website, Facebook and Instagram (tag us with #northerngrip) to be the first to hear about 2018 Grip stuff as it gets confirmed.
